For example, in our office, my extension is 201. In my home office, my extension is 150. In fact, it actually saves me money during the times that I want to work from home. I can answer my 201 extension because it rings on my 150 extension at my home. When I travel, I often take my laptop which has VoIP software. Using my Bluetooth headset and my laptop, I can talk from anywhere in the world back to my office. One time when in the Orlando airport, I conducted business with my customers and my employees using my laptop VoIP software. The cost of these phone calls was the same as if I were sitting at my office desk.

Another example, when Mr. Smith in location A needs to call Mr. Jones in location B which is many miles away, he used to have to place a call with the area code and the seven digit number, wait for the phone to answer, go through voice mail and finally reach Mr. Jones. Now with all their offices being connected and appearing to the end user as one system, Mr. Smith can pick up the phone, dial a 3 digit extension and reach Mr. Jones directly. This not only saves in long distance charges but also cuts down on time that it takes to reach the other employees.
